Danny Haynes signed an 18 month contract on Friday morning and returns to the club after previously being in the academy.

He joins former academy team mate, Danny Green, in coming back to The Valley and will wear the number 14 shirt.

A real speed merchant, Haynes has been utilised on the wing more than in his favoured role up front during his career. Chris Powell sees him as a front man and will be hoping Haynes begins to fulfil his undoubted potential.

On Saturday 15 January last year, two days after his appointment, Chris Powell sat with Steven Kavanagh in the Hillsborough stands with Keith Peacock taking charge of the team. Charlton raced into a two goal lead after just six minutes through Scott Wagstaff and a Johnnie Jackson penalty. Alas, the Addicks were pegged back and had to settle for a point, though Joe Anyinsah did spurn a glorious opportunity just after Wednesday had equalised.

The Addicks again looked to be cruising at The Valley in September before Gary Megson made an early change to match Charlton’s formation. Wednesday snatched a draw and Powell will be looking to go one better this time.

The spine of the Owls team will have a familiar look to it for Charlton fans with Nicky Weaver in goal, Miguel Llera in defence and Jose Semedo in midfield.

Ex-Palace favourite, Clinton Morrison, will likely partner former Rochdale man, Chris O’Grady, in attack. Slippery winger, Ben Marshall, will be a threat as will former Bristol Rovers midfielder, Chris Lines.

Powell will be hoping his side’s attacking play will nullify Marshall’s ability to come forward.

Charlton have no new injuries so Powell will have to decide between the verve and energy of Bradley Pritchard and the more solid presence of Darel Russell in midfield. Wednesday are a physical side and the game could develop into an attritional affair, so Russell may be preferred. With Haynes’arrival Pritchard may even struggle to make the bench. Ben Hamer will resume in goal following the suspension that prevented him playing at Fulham.

Hamer; Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wiggins; Green, Russell, Hollands, Jackson; Kermorgant, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Sullivan, Cort, Wagstaff, Haynes, Clarke.

Neil Swarbrick from Lancashire will be the referee.

The Owls have a formidible home record, winning nine and drawing two of their eleven games at Hillsborough. Charlton have a great record on their travels, so it would be no surprise if the game ended in stalemate again. The big crowd could make the hosts anxious if they do not make an early breakthrough. If so, Charlton could take full advantage.
